Huawei, the Chinese tech giant has released a new phone called the Ascend P1 S, which is claimed as the thinnest smartphone yet. Some even wonder if it can beat Galaxy Nexus and Galaxy S2. Huawei is not as popular as Samsung, Apple or other major manufacturers, but going by specs, we can easily see that the phone is a winner compared to many well-known phone models in the market.
Although Huawei have released a number of smartphones and tablets in recent years, the release of Ascend P1 S may announce their real arrival at the global phone industry. The company has also supplied components to other phone makers, but the Ascend P1 S can be considered as their first world class smartphone. In fact, attendees of CES 2012 seem to be adoring it.
Huawei’s new device is just 0.26 inches (6.68 mm) thin making it the slimmest smartphone ever. The phone runs the latest version of Android OS, the Ice Cream Sandwich and the PPVD layer on the back cover is designed to distribute excess heat evenly, which allows users to hold the more comfortably for a long period of time. The Ascend P1 S is not a small phone, it features a rather sizable 4.3” Super-AMOLED display at 540 x 960 pixels resolution. The screen is protected by the Corning Gorilla glass to prevent accidental scratches. The handset is powered by a fast 1.5GHz dual-core processor, which is supported by 1 GB of RAM.
Users can also play games and other 3D applications fluidly, thanks to the proven PowerVR SGX540 GPU, which is also used by the iPhone family. The 4GB internal storage should be enough for most users, however users can insert up to 32GB of MicroSD card into the external memory slot. The impressive specs doesn’t end here, it comes loaded with an 8Mp rear-facing camera, which can capture 1080p videos. A 1.3Mp front-facing camera is available for video conference and taking self-portrait.
Overall, the Huawei Ascend P1 S is a promising device and can become Chinese’s nuclear bomb in 2012 smartphone market. You may also want to look at Huawei Ascend P1 S Hands-On at CES 2012.
